The ceramic tile mural, 'Caywood School Farm', is based on our country property and rural life. Our home is a former one room schoolhouse decommissioned in the 1940's. All featured images; chestnut trees, garden space, farm animals, surrounding landscape, neighboring farms, and houses are hand painted and fired with overglaze paints. The mural border is lined with chestnut fruit. Our yearly corn harvest became the theme for the florets which connect and unify the array of personalized images.
This mural has become a featured seminar for any group who would like to investigate the creative process in executing a large and intricate custom mural. From the beginning, tracing any repeating designs would be very time consuming. Subsequently the florets and border were painted assembly line style incorporating a repetative process using stamps. Only the personalized tiles were painted on an individual basis. Your imagination can go wild while painting a tile mural. Please contact me for more information on this seminar.
The 'Caywood School Farm' mural was one of the most enjoyable projects I have painted to date. Once it was installed it became the proud focus of our kitchen. And we always point out to visiting neighbors their contribution to our wall, whether it be their house, their farm, or business. A personalized mural is what we have.

The completed and installed Caywood School ceramic tile mural is now complemented by a hand-painted
set of cannisters in matching overglaze-on-porcelain!
Dede incorporated border designs based on our Chinese Chestnuts and the organic corn we grow every
year called 'Elephant Ears.'
The mural measures approximately 3' x 6' and is built on conventional 4 inch x 4 inch white-glazed
ceramic tiles.
It is the central feature of the backsplash over a 3-bay commercial stainless steel sink. The
porcelain cannisters continue the theme in the tile mural.
